DIY Vintage Floral Dress

So allow me to to tell you a little about Pretty Girls Sew.  Pretty Girls Sew is a group of 4 women who live in different parts of the US. We kinda met on Instagram by viewing each other's photos.  We all have a love for sewing and decided to come up with this group.  Every month, someone from the group chooses a pattern that we all must purchase and make.  The best part about that is, we have to be creative and make it out own.  We have a month to create and take pictures in our DIY outfit and post it on the site (www.prettygirlssew.com).  At the end of the month, it's so exciting to see what everyone came up with because everyone has their own style and all of the ladies are extremely talented.  This is not a competition whatsoever. We do this for fun. We do this because we enjoy sewing.  Another awesome thing about Pretty Girls Sew is that you can be apart of the group.  If you are a pretty girl that loves to sew, then what in the world are you waiting for?  Maybe you don't know how to sew and want to learn how.  Visit the site.  There is tons of information on how to sew.  There are people from all different levels of sewing; beginners to experts.  No one's judging. We are all learning and having fun along the way.

With that said, for the month of May, I picked out the Vogue pattern pictured below.  I've always wanted a vintage dress and since I wanted to start wearing more dresses this spring and summer, I felt this was the perfect choice. So there is a theme that goes along with each pattern also.  The theme for May was Spring!  What comes to mind when you think of Spring? Floral prints, pastels, bright colors? When I think of Spring, I think of the flowers that finally get to bloom after hibernating all Winter. LOL! I was inspired by the dress that Lucy Liu wore at the Golden Globes this year.  It was the Fall 2013 Carolina Herrerra dress. I just fell in love when I saw it. Isn't it gorgeous?! Ok, so here is my interpretation of the dress.  I changed it up a bit.  I altered the back so that it had a deep v and two ties that I was able to tie in a knot in the back also.
