Red-Lined
I absolutely love how sophisticated Olivia Pope's coats are. I wanted to make a coat that she would possibly wear but instead of the neutral palette that she sticks to, I wanted to make one in a fun, bright color. Although, I made this coat about 2 weeks ago with my mother, Kim Kardashian was spotted wearing my color of choice.
If you sew or shop for fabric you know that wool is quite expensive. It's almost better to buy a coat that's already made. But, hold your horses...I scored some beautiful mustard colored wool for only $5.99/ yd at Hancock Fabrics. Can you believe it?
I must also mention that I did not make this coat by myself. My mother actually helped me a ton. THANK YOU MOMMY! I decided to start filming a new series called "Behind the Scenes" of things that I do behind the camera. This was my first time sewing with my mother who has been sewing longer than I've been living. Surprising right? She lives a bit far from me so sewing is the last thing on our minds when we get together.
So here's the story behind the red lining. I chose red lining because it's unexpected and it reminds me of the luxurious Christian Louboutin heels also known as "Red Bottoms."
I hope you guys enjoy the "Behind the Scenes" video on this coat. We give you a review on the pattern; for beginners or advanced. My mom also gives tips along the way when sewing this coat and so much more. If you guys enjoy this new series, make it known and I'll do more. Thanks for stopping by.
