Gingerbread Christmas Sweater
I love that nowadays the “ugly“ Christmas sweater is celebrated and so many people are hand making them. They are such a fun way to celebrate the holidays. Year after year, people come up with the most hilarious ideas and it becomes so entertaining to see. I enjoy looking forward to this tradition each and every year.
This time around my daughter and I made a sweater together. I love creating traditions with her. Crafting together will always be a memory that she’ll cherish when she gets older. This project is very easy for children to be involved. It doesn’t create a lot of mess (unless you include glitter. Yikes!) and its a great way for them to express their creativity.
MATERIALS:
Felt
Fabric Glue
Trim
Sweater OR Fabric + Simplicity Pattern 8998
For the sweater, I made it from this BEAUTIFUL ponte knit fabric. You guys GO FEEL THIS FABRIC!!!!! This fabric is unlike any ponte knit fabric I’ve ever felt before. Its quite luxurious. My husband (who cares nothing about fabric) even loves this. I plan on making a few sweaters for him with it. I’m really excited because I never make him anything. (LOL!) But because this fabric is so nice, I think he would enjoy it. You guys would enjoy it!
As for the pattern, I did alter it to make a full length sweater. When I saw this pattern, I really loved the sleeves, so I used View A bodice, but View C sleeves. However if you don’t want to make a sweater, go ahead a buy a plain sweater and decorate it with fun crafty materials from JOANN stores.
Here is where the kids can get involved!
Trace out the body of a gingerbread boy or girl on a piece of paper.
Cut it out the paper shape and place it on your sweater. If it fits to your desired size, trace it on felt and cut it out.
Using the trim and whatever little crafty trinkets you can find, have fun decorating your gingerbread.
