Thrift Flip: Emily in Paris

If you watch the show, Emily in Paris like I do, I’m sure you are inspired by all of the fashion looks that Lily Collins and Ashley Park are styled in. What if I was a character on the show? What would I be wearing? I thought it’d be fun to create a look my character would be styled in. [See the video I created here to watch the look come to life.]

Fiskars came out with a new line of scissors. The collection is called Renew. What’s so special about them, you may ask. Well….The packaging, the handle, AND the scissor blade are all made from recycled and renewable material. How incredible is that?! If you are wondering about the quality of the product, Fiskars did not sacrifice the quality in order to be sustainable. The quality is still comparable to all of their other products. Each pair of scissors has a lifetime Warranty. If that doesn’t show you that they believe in their products, I don’t know what will.

Purchase these Fiskars products at your local Joann stores and get inspired to transform something you may own into something brand new.

I love that Fiskars was inspired by recycled materials to create a new product, which inspired me to do the same with my project. Instead of creating an Emily in Paris inspired look from scratch, I decided to visit my local thrift store and purchase a blazer and turn it into something new.

When thrifting, aside from the obvious fact that it is a more sustainable option, you can save alot of money when shopping for items that you want to change up. Here are some tips that you may not be aware of though, that you may have to reconsider prior to doing a thrift flip:

  1. You must know what you want to create prior to shopping in order to find something with enough fabric to execute.

  2. Be familiar with the fabric you find and want to take home from the thrift store. For example, if you find something with sequins, make sure that you know how to work with the type of fabric because you’ll find that it can be finiky and take a lot of patience to work with.

  3. If you are a beginner, start simple. Find something that you already like and learn to shorten the length and create a hem. Starting with the basics gives you an idea of what goes into truly transforming an entire look.
