Custom Faux Fur Chairs

If you follow me on Instagram you’d know that I’ve been giving my family room a MAJOR decor overhaul. Over the course of the last few months, I've been sharing sneaky peaks of the space. I still have so much to do with the space, so I’ll be sharing the before and later of those photos at a later time. In redecorating our family room, I love that we chose to mix high and low end pieces together. The lower end pieces are excellent quality that we found second hand. We needed to add some focal chairs to the space so I thought I’d share how we accomplished this with the help of Fiskars. You can watch how I accomplished this project HERE.

Fiskars launched a brand new line of Renew scissors made from renewable and recyclable materials. I’ve had the opportunity to use them the past couple of months and I must say, they are exceptional! Although the scissors within the line are made from renewable and recyclable materials, the quality isn't sacrificed. The collection has the same high quality as their other scissors and they have a lifetime warranty. How incredible is that?!

INSPIRATION

Our inspiration for this project comes from a couple of high end furniture stores. The style of the chair is striking and surely makes a statement within the space. I love how warm and cozy the chair looks. It just feels like a warm bear hug, doesn’t it? Well, let’s talk about the price tag. The retail price for the chair we are inspired by is about $2000! So, if I need two of these, I would go broke with a total cost of about $4000.. Uh……….help! LOL!

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Create a pattern for the seat and seat back by tracing onto wrapping paper. Be sure to add seam allowance. To create a pattern piece for the sides of the cushion, make sure the seam allowance is at least 2 inches long. This may seam too long, but I’ll explain later.

  2. Use your pattern you just created to cut out faux fur fabric using the Fiskars 8” ReNew Scissors

  3. Using your fabric clips, clip your fabric pieces together. When doing so, be sure to direct the fur away from the seam.

  4. Sew fabric in place using a medium to long stitch length.

  5. Take your cushion cover you just made and test it on your cushion. If you need to make adjustments, this is the best time to do so.

  6. If no adjustments are needed, spray the fabric on the chair with the spray adhesive, then place the covers onto your chair. Using the extra long seam allowance, fold the fabric to the underside of the chair and staple in place. The long seam allowance is needed to pull the fabric taut to the underside of the chair.

  7. If there are any loose edges, use the permanent fabric glue to adhere in place. Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours and that’s it.
