CREATE YOUR MARKINGS

Buttonholes can be SOO intimidating (especially to a new sewer) even though they’re easier than you think! To show you just how easy they can be, check out the post below for a super-simple way on how to mark your buttonholes for your next project!

MATERIALS

Buttons (Check out my shop here!)
Buttonhole Spacing Gauge
Marking Tool (Such as tailor’s/sewing chalk, a washable pencil, etc.)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Place your top and bottom buttons where you would like them.

2. Using the spacer, mark the area where the bottom edge of the buttons lay.

4. Mark the center of your button placket. This is what it should look like.

PERFECT THE BUTTONHOLE PLACEMENT

Before you start sewing your buttonholes on your garment, I highly recommend practicing on a scrap piece of fabric - this can help alleviate the stress of messing up your garment. Make sure you are comfortable with how it looks before committing!

MATERIALS

Buttons (Check out my shop here!)
Buttonhole foot
Buttonhole cutter

INSTRUCTIONS

1.Place the button you’ll be sewing (or a button of similar size) on the back side of the buttonhole foot, making sure it’s fitted in snugly. Attach your buttonhole foot to your machine.

2. Align the horizontal and vertical markings on your fabric with the horizontal and vertical markings on your buttonhole foot.

3. Set your machine up to the buttonhole setting.

4. Pull down the buttonhole lever on the back left side of your sewing machine.

5. Press your sewing machine pedal and let your machine do its thing. Your machine should do the work for you!

6. Once your machine has come to a full stop, no need to cut the threads. Just move on to the next buttonhole that you have to create and do it!

7. Once your buttonholes are complete, remove your project from the machine and clip off any extra threads.

8. Using your buttonhole cutter, cut open your buttonhole(s). That’s it! Simple right?!

BUTTON PLACEMENT AND SEWING ON YOUR BUTTONS

Sewing on your buttons with your machine is as easy as making a few marks, changing a couple of settings on your machine, and letting your machine do all the work!

MATERIALS

Buttons (Check out my shop here!)
Button fitting foot
Marking Tool (Such as tailor’s/sewing chalk, a washable pencil, etc.)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Close the front of your garment and pin in place. Mark the center of your buttonholes onto the button placket.

2. Center your buttons over your markings.

3. Put on your button fitting foot and lower your feed dogs.

4. Choose your button attachment stitch and adjust your stitch width to fit between the buttonholes.

5. Hold your toothpick tip between your button holes as you press your sewing machine pedal to stitch in place, making sure you backstitch to secure. This helps to create a shank for your button.

Voila!
