Thrift Flip: Resort Wear Coord

I am really enjoying the Thrift Flip challenges that I’ve been working on recently. I hope you are too! If you missed them, I created an Emily in Paris inspired look and a really cute basket handbag. These challenges are super fun because they force me to think outside of the box and push me to be creative.

Fiskars recently launched an incredible line of ReNew scissors made from renewable and recyclable materials. I love the direction they went in with these scissors which inspired me to do the same with my projects. You can find and shop the sustainable collection online or at your local Joann Stores. Remember, Joanns has amazing coupons so bring that along as well for an even better deal.

So, I purchased a men’s white button up shirt from the thrift store for $4.98. The struggle with finding clothes from the thrift store is the sizing. Because I am a curvy woman, the options are few. I have to find pieces that not only fit my body, but also a bit bigger because of my need for extra fabric if need be. It’s such a struggle.

INSPIRATION

A white button up is a great basic foundation that allows for the direction of my creativity to go in many different ways. I thought about a resort look. I wanted to create something I’d wear on a date night while on vacation. With this idea, dyeing the fabric another color was important in bringing this look to life. I also wanted to be able to wear the pieces separately to maximize my vacation wardrobe so, making matching separates was the way to go. Lastly, because this was a date night look, of course, it had to be sexy.

NOTES

  • If you are curvy or have a larger bust, I will say this pattern is not meant for us. Alot of modifications are needed to create this top to fit our bodies.

  • If you want to go for it, create a toile first. This is important to ensure the perfect fit.

  • Since the shirt is thin, I did use some fabric in my stash to line it. Without the lining, it would feel cheap so if you are doing this project be sure to have lining on hand, or buy two white button-ups.
