Blue Sherpa Coat

I wasn’t too sure that I even liked this coat at first… but I LOVE it!

Out of all of the coats that I’ve made this season, this is, by far, the one I wear the most often (even without buttons!). I love how soft and comfortable the fabric is! This was another happy surprise that came from Joann this year when I saw all of the fun, colorful faux fur options they were rolling out that I just couldn’t help but buy all of the fur!

Faux fur itself is so on-trend right now but I’ve seen so much sherpa that I couldn’t pass it up!

For those of you that are being influenced and want to try your hand at making coats or sewing fur, I’d definitely recommend starting with sherpa! The easiest material to start with would be a wool or faux wool since it has great structure but isn’t nearly as thick and potentially difficult to sew as fur. The next easiest would definitely be this sherpa! It’s a nice middle-ground between the flat wool and a thick fur that you’re still getting the faux fur look but it’s definitely easier on you and your machine, especially while you’re still getting a feel for it! Faux fur (like my Green Fur Coat) is definitely for those a bit more advanced with sewing. There’s a lot of trimming, sewing thick layers, and you have to know what to do in case something goes wrong.
